Carlingford Park Honour High

Harriet

‘Harriet’ left home as a yearling and headed to the lovely McGorlick family in Western Australia before being sold to Shelley Pollard in SA as a 3 year old. Prepared throughout her career by Shelly she started her show career under the guidance of Chris and Vicky Lawrie and soon had people talking. With her beautifully set front, ‘look at me’ presence and extreme movement she is definitely the epitome of a ‘show pony’.

Hattie’s first Royal Show saw her take out Champion Large Pony with Greg Mikan aboard, later that year she was sashed Champion Large Pony at ESA HOTY and Champion Large Pony at SHC HOTY. Qualified for Nationals we headed down to the Hume to Werribee to watch her perform at her first Australasian Show Horse & Rider Nationals event. Now partnered by Margot Haynes she beautifully to claim Runner-up Large Pony in 2018, the same year our galloway was 3rd in her Large Galloway Class. It was at this time I became totally obsessed with our homebred girl and hoped one day I may be able to purchase an embryo to continue her bloodline here at Carlingford Park.

In 2019 she was Reserve Champion Large Pony at Canberra Royal, and again sashed Champion Large Pony at Adelaide Royal. Shortly after she won her open and Runner-up in the Fairlight Acres trophy at Melbourne Royal, unfortunately an error in her work saw her miss out on a broad sash.

She was once again victorious at ESA HOTY and SHC HOTY Champion Large Pony gaining her ticket to a second Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships and Grand National. Booked and ready to watch her at Nationals in December our trip halted with the exciting arrival of our very first grandchild. So glued to the live streaming I keenly watched her beautiful work that saw her go one better and take out the Australasian Champion Large Pony title.

She returned to Canberra Royal in 2020 for a win just before Covid stopped us all in our tracks. The decision was made not to bring her to Sydney for Grand National with the very real risk of all concerned being quarantined and unable to get back to South Australia. The on again off again lockdowns pretty much put a halt to her show career for the time being.

It was during this time the lengthy negotiations commenced to bring Harriet back home. With much anticipation she arrived back to her birth place in late October 2021. We briefly showed her, this time with Trinette Crawford aboard to 3rd at Southern Cross Show Horse Championships. She was quickly called first in her heat and the final in her open at Sydney Royal 2022 however she just couldn’t regain herself after a scare with a showjumper in the early stages of the class so we had to settle for 3rd. With no other class to contend it was onto her Ridden Riding Pony class the next day which saw her win her class in a big field and go onto be sashed Champion Ridden Riding Pony at Sydney Royal.

In foal to Royalwood Rossini her show career has once again paused, whether she graces our show rings again only time will tell but for now we eagerly wait to see if she’s as big a success in the broodmare paddock as she has been in the show ring.

I still can’t quite believe she is back in our paddocks and I get to be her slave every day. I feel extremely blessed, and forever grateful to Shelley for allowing me the opportunity to purchase Harriet and return her to Carlingford Park. Together we will hopefully enjoy watching many baby Hatti’s follow in their stunning mother’s hoof steps.
